Each Breath A Smile, by Sister Susan

Based on the teachings of Vietnamese Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hanh, and written by a nun in one of his centers, this book introduces children to mindful breathing and awareness, but steers clear of any explicit religious teachings. Great for calming very young children and teaching them the basics of mindfulness.

Peaceful Piggy Meditation, by Kerry Lee Maclean

This fun story featuring a playful piggy family presents meditation as a tool kids can use to help them deal with the difficult everyday situations they most often confront – getting teased by their siblings, falling down at school, or served a dinner they can’t stand. Includes instructions for basic meditations at the end.

Moody Cow Meditates, by Kerry Lee McLean

By the same author as Peaceful Piggy Meditation, this book centers on a young boy cow, aka ‘moody cow’, who has had a very bad day, and ended up VERY angry. His grandfather helps him settle down with a ‘mind-jar’, where the agitated sparkles in the jar represent his angry thoughts. A great book for opening up discussion about difficult emotions, especially anger, and for introducing meditation as a method for dealing with them.

Relax Kids: Aladdin’s Magic Carpet and Other Fairy Tale Meditations for Princesses and Superheroes, by Marneta Viegas

If you have elementary through tween aged children you would like to introduce to meditation, with fanciful themes and guided visualizations.

Seven Spirals: A Chakra Sutra for Kids, Deena Haiber and Aimee MacDonald

If you are a practitioner of chakra meditation, or do yoga and want to introduce your children to the chakras for that reason, this is a great non-religious introduction. For each of the 7 core chakras (within the system Westerners are most familiar with through yoga- there are actually other systems), there is first a page featuring a mandala-type picture with the color, English, and Sanskrit name of the chakra. Then there is a brief vignette featuring a child – kind of a story, but really more of a ‘scene’ or setting that corresponds to the energies that chakra represents. There is a final reference page that lists the locations of the chakras within this system, and provides an overview of how to meditate on them. The pictures are colorful and fanciful.

Kindergarten math games are not a complete substitute for good teaching and a nurturing classroom environment. However, they’re an effective way to bridge the gap between a parent and a teacher and can inspire your child to learn while giving you the tools you need to monitor their progress.

Most math games are online, which makes them easy to access from virtually any computer. They have low system requirements, too, despite their bright colors and graphics. The programs lead children through a series of exercises that gradually introduce new math concepts. Older lessons are occasionally re-introduced to make sure that the child hasn’t forgotten any important ideas.

The best math games will chart a child’s progress and provide this information to teachers and parents. At the kindergarten age, it may be difficult to spot major weak areas, as children will often become bored or distracted during lessons, but online games make it easier to spot these weaknesses, allowing teachers and parents to use differentiated instruction techniques to approach the problem lessons in a different way.

If you’re considering at-home computer math games for your child, it pays to spend some time evaluating your options. Online games need to be age-appropriate, but they should have access to more advanced lessons, as this will allow you to use the program through the crucial first few years of your child’s education.

The games should also have ample reporting capabilities. Look for games that were developed with adaptive learning techniques in mind. Any math program can provide a simple list of exercises, but the best games will go above and beyond by offering a complete learning system that adapts to your child’s strength and weaknesses.

Remember to practice consistently, but not to the point of frustration. Schedule a regular time for your child to use kindergarten math and stick to your schedule. When a certain lesson seems especially difficult, inform the child’s teacher and try different instruction techniques to get the concepts of the material across.

Online games have excellent benefits when used correctly, but ultimately, it’s your duty as a parent to make sure that each new concept is firmly understood before the next is introduced. Math games make this process much easier and can be enormously beneficial in the long run, allowing kids to learn lifelong math skills in a fun and engaging way.

Homeschooling can be quite challenging, especially when it come to the cost for expensive home school supplies. Finding out the right places to get a cheaper rate is essential. Here are some tips:

1. Don’t buy what you don’t need – every child is different. If you have decided on home schooling, there is no point in going for pre- packaged home schooling kits.

They may not work for you kid. Instead, try to customize your home school supplies according to the needs of your child. He can learn math just as easily from the computer (playing games, no less!). Nonetheless, select some good books and it will serve as good investment for knowledge.

2. Home school conventions – keep track of home school conventions in your area. These are great places to steal a bargain on home school supplies. There is competition all round. This ensures that you get the best of supplies at the most reasonable of costs!

Just be a bit careful about buying used work books. It’s no point if you buy a book with the answers written down in them! If there are scribbles on just a few pages, you might chose to erase them out or just skip the pages. Whatever you do, don’t buy them without a thorough look.

3. Publishers- a number of publishers can help you with text books. Some of these are slightly damaged. However, that does not come between you and your child’s education AND you get a bargain on them.

4. Go online-online sites are your best bet when it comes to affordable home school supplies. Not only do you get to compare prices, you also get to browse through the content, so that you don’t end up with something you don’t need.

You can locate titles of the books, see the condition of the supplies and then decide on a price. You can even upload a post stating your requirements and wait while sellers contact you with the best price!

5. Get a printer or a photocopier- this is one the best ways in which you can get affordable home school supplies. There are many homeschooling related web sites come with free teaching material. With a printer, you can just download it and use it as material. Ridiculously simple, right?

Buy home school supplies with care-look for home school supplies that you can use repeatedly, year after a year. Whether you are opting for unit studies or educational CD’s, the more you get out of them year after year, the less costly it will turn out to be in the long run.

Home school supplies are one of the most important components of your homeschooling curriculum. Be selective, and you will secure your children and yourself for a better future.

It can be hard to get your child’s attention among all the swimming pools, video games and television shows that they’d rather be spending their time on, it’s important that you keep the learning going (at least at some level) during the summertime. That way, when they return to school in the fall, they’ll be enriched and ready to learn. Here are eight fun ways to keep your kids learning all summer long, including some educational websites your kids will love.

1. Start your summer learning adventure by heading to your local library. Most libraries offer reading programs each summer that challenge your child to read. They may have flyers to help your child stay on track and reading suggestions divided by age group. Taking a weekly trip to the local library will be a great family activity to look forward to each week.

2. Instead of letting your child sit in front of video games all summer long, why not make the process educational? There are many educational computer games and games for video game systems that allow your child to have fun and can help them keep up to date with their basic skills at the same time. Keep in mind though that too many computer games, educational or not, will reduce your child’s activity level, so make sure to use the video games in moderation.

3. Summer is a perfect time to discover, or re-discover, the unique learning opportunities in your neighborhood. If you haven’t been to the local museum or other historic location within driving distance of your home, now is the time to do it. Make sure to talk about the history, science or other subject you’ll be learning about so your kids can get the most out of the experience. Big metropolitan museums, zoos or landmarks are also great destinations during the summer. Even though gas is expensive, a road trip every now and then may be just what the teacher ordered.

4. Allow each of your children to choose a comprehensive workbook that they can work on a bit each day. Some workbooks cover math, reading, social studies and science. You might want to work out an incentive program to make sure they get their worksheets done each day. For example, each worksheet equals one ticket. Once they reach five tickets, everyone is rewarded with a few hours at the pool or a run through the sprinklers.

5. Play some educational, age-appropriate games, such as Scrabble, Boggle or chess. Purchase some family favorites in travel editions so the kids can play them on car rides and on vacation.

6. Learning during summer vacation can also take a more formal role in your child’s life. If there was a subject your kids struggled with during the school year, now is the time to get tutoring or enroll them in a program to help them catch up. Make the experience fun by balancing their study time with some good old-fashioned family fun.

7. Vacation is the perfect time for sharing non-traditional lessons with your child that expose them to concepts they won’t find in regular school. If they learned about plants this year in school, help them plant their own garden so they can see the concepts in action. Reinforce their knowledge of fractions and measurements by having daily or weekly cooking lessons with you in your kitchen. Many schools have had to cut back on arts and music, so summer gives you the perfect opportunity to let your child’s creative side flourish.

Educational toys for kids should not be treated as ordinary toys. For one thing, toys can be used effectively to reinforce early education. It is now a settled theory that proper toys can help enrich the quality learning for kids while at their play.

The importance of play among kids can be best glimpsed from the fact that humans have the longest childhood among their closest primates. This prolonged childhood stage is very important for the developing the mental faculties among human children.

The human brain, as it is now a generally accepted scientific fact, takes very long to develop. Both the rational and emotional development of kids depends much in their childhood, making quality toy an important factor for kids’ play.

Kids around two or three years of age have natural liking for role-playing and other creative play. Individually or as a group, creative plays among kids can be used as opportunity to induce learning while kids enjoy themselves.

Dressing up, including putting on make-up, are normally learned by girls from grown-up females in an household, while boys and even girls like to transform themselves into characters that the fancy. Kids’ imagination, language facility, general social skill, ang overall emotional behavior can benefit immensely from these types of play.

Educational toys that can strengthen kids’ learning during this creative plays include all types of dolls, costumes for their dressing-up games, and even assortment of materials that can be used for their games.

Kids up to five years of age however, can benefit from educational toys that need construction and designing. Puzzles are good example of the needed type of toy for this age group as these will help their cognitive development, including the problem recognition and decision making skills. After entering school however, this type of toys becomes less attracting to kids, as they learn new games, and consequently toys that go with it, in the school.

It should be noted that both the intellectual and emotional development of kids are at stake while they are playing, or while they are playing with their favorite toys. The reason for this simple: both the emotional and rational sphere are both housed in the brain. Educational toys should therefore, serve the need to develop these two aspects of kids’ brain.

When we think of the early child development stages, we invariably think of the physical, mental, and emotional aspects. Take care not to leave the spiritual component out of this early childhood teaching process. Having your child participate in classes and activities at your place of worship is certainly a major part of the early childhood learning experience, but the recognition of the existence of other belief systems and respect for the people of these other belief systems will make for a more spiritually grounded child.

Spiritually grounded? This sounds impressive, but what does spiritually grounded really mean? When one thinks of a ‘grounded’ person, we think the person has his or her feet on the ground – he or she knows who he or she is, and he or she is comfortable with that. Taken in the context with faith, it simply means that the person has a clear spiritual identity, and is very comfortable with this identity.

Wearing cool kids t shirts blaring a statement of faith doesn’t make the child anymore spiritually grounded than me claiming I am an astronaut just because I am wearing a helmet – it’s what’s going on inside the child that determines this. Make no mistake – what goes on inside your child is not a random act of nature or genetics. It’s the impressions, or rather his or she interpretation and assimilation of the experiences in his life that comprises your child’s inner workings, and last time we looked, you, the parent still have the greatest ability to impact these impressions.

Many parents think that educating their little one too early could have adverse effects on their intelligence. However, according to scientific research, this is not quite true. Early learning is a good thing if the parents, and other responsible adults interacting with the child, create the right setting for this.

The human brain begins to develop even before birth. This process of development continues well into the adulthood stage. The foundation of your son/daughter’s intelligence, acumen and behavior is dependent on the earlier stages of brain development. Why is this so? It is easier for the brain to adapt at the early stages.

However, two major factors influence the impact of learning at the early stages of childhood. (If you are thinking that it has anything to do with your child’s capabilities, you are wrong). Here are the two considerations.

1. High quality programs suitable for early childhood learning

2. Responsible adults who create the proper ambience for learning

The next thing of importance is which method to employ to teach your kids. Keep in mind one point – the element of fun; and you are going to be successful in your attempts to teach your kid the basics. Instead of conventional methods of teaching, let your little one learn on their own – your job is just to create the ambience conducive o this.

It is always a good idea if he/she can get their basic learning at home (just like charity, education needs to begin at home too). You can avail various tools that would help you in this regard. If you think it to be difficult, get help from an expert in this field of learning. With their help, it becomes easy to help your kid learn.

Next are the benefits of learning at the formative stages of life. Here is a look at the points of consequence -

• Have a good understanding of the basics of early reading and math

• Have no requirement for special education, in most cases

• Have little chance of repeating a grade

• Have lesser chances of needing child welfare services

• Have higher scope of completing graduation and going on to higher studies

Numerous observational studies are available that provide ample proof of the benefits of starting early when it comes to your kid’s education. These kids grow up to become responsible adults. The results reveal higher employment rates, better salaries, lesser delinquency, and such others.

Not only does this education help the child, it also helps the community. From a social point of view, it is extremely important for a community’s success that the individuals in the community are responsible adults. Proper education at the early stages makes the necessary foundation strong.

Interestingly, learning at the early stages of brain development has a positive impact on the economy as well. High quality education at this stage means lesser grade retention, lesser grade repetitions at the senior levels of schooling. This implies that the schools, and the government, save money.

These educational computer games can assist your child’s development from pre-schooling days or early childhood, where your kid is introduced to the world of numbers, alphabets and shapes! Such software kits are excellent for pre-school owners as well as parents who want their kids to enjoy the benefits of these software at home.

Simple computer games can assist the kids with their mental development skills including introduction to numbers, alphabets, shapes and even color co-ordination! It is a great way to create interest in the learning process since kids are more fascinated by computers.

It also offers the kids, an opportunity to indulge themselves in various activities related to math, arts, music, language, etc. They can involve themselves in many other skills like reading games, math games, puzzle solving and coloring pictures.
Just log on to the internet and there are a number of educational games for pre-school children that you can easily download or purchase.

There are literally thousands of different children’s books that you can choose from when you are looking to get something for your little boy or girl. When it comes to which books you get for your children at an early age, you won’t want to rush through and make a hasty decision. Getting children interested in reading happens at a young age, and that means being able to pick out the right books that will get them hooked well into their adult years. Most adults are able to look back fondly on the books they enjoyed reading or being read to them as a child. When you are in the book store or looking online, make sure that you take your time and search through all the available titles before making any firm decisions.

Baby books are filled with all kinds of bright colors and beautiful pictures for your child to enjoy, no matter how young they are. Since at that age they are not able to read or even understand everything you are saying, choosing books with nice looking bright pictures is important. They will enjoy the book based more on the images they see rather than the story the book tells. For this reason, it’s important to choose books for your baby that are visually stimulating and give them something nice to look at page by page. There are some books that your child will enjoy more than others, so it is important to get a wide variety of them so they can choose which ones they like the best. You might even want to take your child with you to the store and see which books look the best to them based on the cover art or inside the book itself.

If you are preparing to be a parent to a child and want to look at some of the literature that is out there, then you will certainly be pleased to know that there are many books for up and coming parents. It’s important that you get a feel for what being a parent is going to be like, whether you are a mom or a dad. Each parent plays an extremely important role in the child’s development, so you will need to know how to be there as much as you can for them while they are growing up.

It is far more advantageous to learn multiple languages at an early age, these skills will only increase into adulthood. Learning a language at any age is rewarding, but learning it at a young age offers the widest range of opportunities and benefits.

Children see learning a new language as fun, it is something to enjoy, it can be built into playing games and usually this leads to an effective and somewhat infectious enthusiasm. It aids their ability to communicate with people generally, even in their own language, and may even aid their enjoyment of communicating with others.

Learning at such and early age also produces more of a native grasp of pronunciation, and grammar in the second language. The brain automatically separates each language correctly and so young children have the ability to learn many languages without getting them confused, also they probably don’t even realise they’re doing it. Think about it – do you actually remember the process you went through to learn how to read, write or spell. The process was definitely there, but at a young age everything is a learning curve and so becomes automatic. By incorporating foreign languages into a school curriculum, children develop a greater appreciation for diversity. Not only do they learn about the structure of a second language, but it also enhances the structure of their own language.

We all seem to manage to pick up our own language with incredible speed, be it through reading, song, conversation, nursery rhymes, even inventing our own words sometimes. It’s all done in fun, so while exploring their first language, it’s an ideal time to start a second one.

It’s not only the actual skill in being able to read, write and communicate in that second language that can prove an advantage, but the process can also give other advantages. It has been documented that it can help in learning to read generally. It can boost confidence not to mention the work out the brain will be getting!

At a young age learning is fun, natural and intuitive. Learning a second language can spur them on to a deeper passion for learning in general. As mimicking is also a large part of childhood, it’s easier for them to pick up new words and accents; it’s also easier for them to get away with it!! They seem to be able to pick up and reproduce some of the tricker sounds that as adults we now stumble upon, admittedly usually through fear of being mocked. Children don’t worry about this as much as we do in later life – it’s all part of growing up. At an early age, it doesn’t matter if the grammar is totally correct, that can be worked on later. In adulthood we tend to want a more immediate and perfect final product. By starting early, children will grow up being able to speak their second language confidently and correctly, just like a native!

Being able to speak a second language even if not fluently also makes travelling abroad a whole lot easier. It opens up a whole new experience of cultures and traditions and encourages travel. It’s also a great advantage when travelling to places where relatives speak in a different native tongue. It helps to immediately become part of a larger family, to hear first hand, memories and stories from elder relatives and to be able to continue these traditions and customs is preserving family history.

No matter in what country they live, no matter their environment or circumstances, every child must have play. It’s absolutely necessary for children to play, to express themselves social, emotionally and physically. Play allows itself to be an individual creation or to be shared with others, it can be pulled in any direction letting it be turned into anything a child would like, preparing a healthy start to a lifetime of learning. One of the most important things about play is that involves having fun. It gives a child a strong head start in life by exploring in many different directions.

The adult’s job is to provide the environment and ideas that maximize play’s potential benefits, allowing children to develop their social skills. One of the ways to do this is to provide and encourage games that are fun, exciting and positive for children. Cooperative games build many social skills. These skills allow the child to form strong friendships and family relationships.

Activities that involve interacting with others teach children not only about themselves but also about other children’s feeling needs and wants. Since they have learnt to value others’ emotions they develop skills to handle confrontations and conflicts in the future.

As well as being socially and emotionally equipped a child need to develop physical strengths. Play has a huge impact in this development for children of varying ages, abilities and interests. Physical play strengthens a child’s fine motor skills as well as gross motor skills. Fine motor skills include such things as eye, mouth, wrist, finger and toe movements, whereas motor skills are the exercise of the larger muscle groups like the arms, legs and torso. Play involving movement is critical for strengthening and stimulating the child’s muscles, nerves and brain.

Social, emotional and physical learning are all involved in play. Cognitive development comes hand in hand with all three of these developments and play is an important vehicle of this. Play gives children the opportunity to understand the world, interact with others in social ways and to express and control emotions. Play provides an opportunity for children to practice newly acquired skills and attempt or challenge tasks, they start to solve complex problems that they would not or could not otherwise do. All these things are needed for a child to get a healthy start in life.

Many parents who enter the special education system do so with quite a bit of apprehension. They may have heard horror stories from parents of other children with special needs. They may have had to fight in order to get their children qualified for special education. They may be unsure of what to expect from special education and from their child’s teachers. Overall, there are several things to keep in mind when you are dealing with special education. Keeping these ideas at the forefront of your mind will help you to better advocate for your student and for yourself.

First of all, try to give everyone that you encounter the benefit of the doubt. Most of the people who work in special education truly care about their students and about what they are doing. However, many special education teachers find themselves overwhelmed with paperwork and politics. This does not mean that they are not doing their best for your child. When you are dealing with teachers and administrators try to assume that everyone involved wants what is best for your child. This will make it much easier to negotiate if you do have a disagreement about something.

While everyone at the school wants what is best for your child, remember that legally the school owes you a Ford, not a Cadillac. This means that the school has to ensure that your child is getting an adequate education, but they are not obligated to provide him with the very best education. This sounds cynical, but it is true. Keep in mind that schools have limited resources, including time and money. If you insist that your child needs a one on one aide for the entire school day then that means that the school cannot have that aide working with another child. Your child may do almost as well with an aide for part of the day or with resource room help for difficult subjects.

Lastly, be sure to document everything. If your child has an evaluation or an IEP, document it. If she gets a note sent home from school, save the note. If he brings home work samples, save them. Remember that if it is not documented then there is no proof that it actually happened. Documentation serves several purposes. It helps to establish what has and has not been agreed upon. This means that people will be held accountable for what they promise to do. Documentation also serves as a cumulative record of your child’s school years. It can be encouraging to look back and see that skills that he or she has struggled with are now things that have been successfully mastered.

As a young child your brain is like a sponge. A child’s early years are what shape them as a person and also determine how well and how easily they can learn new things. In a child’s first 7 to 8 years they do an incredible amount of learning not least the ability to speak a language and read. As such it is vitally important to provide a child with the best learning environment to give them the best opportunities in their early years.

The major problems for parents are all to do with getting the right schools and preschools for their children. While you can devote a lot of your time to teaching your children as they grow you will have little control over what they are learning while they are at nursery or primary school. As such it has reached the stage that parents are striving to get their children into the best nurseries and primary schools they can. But what makes the best schools; it’s not to do with the private schools and tuition fees, but the priorities of the schools themselves.

The best schooling doesn’t come from expensive learning but from the methods of the teachers themselves. It should be the first priority of the parent to find out about the school and take time to meet the teachers. Modern methods are fine, but one underappreciated commodity is experience. Nursery and primary school teachers who have been in the business for a long time knows how to give children the right amount of encouragement to learn in the right way.

What is also important is to ensure the right environment for children. Learning made fun is the easiest way to get children to teach themselves. As such, classrooms should not simply be a place for factual learning but practical learning.
Educational supplies extend well beyond notebooks and pens as learning aids such as educational toys and games are the most conducive way to educate a young child. If you want to give your child an added advantage, preschool equipment and games can be used in the home.

Personalized children books include the child’s name, their age, where they live and they can take friends on the adventure they encounter in such a book. There are books for super heroes, princesses, adventures on farms with dinosaurs. There are counting books, ABC books, and sports books. Whatever interest your child may have personalized children’s books can impress the child’s personal information into a story about their favorite subject.

A child’s imagination is pressed into action as well while reading a personalized children’s book. This process also helps a child’s brain begin rationalization on problem solving which keeps developing as the plot of the story unfolds. This is where self-esteem and self-worth can be built within a child.

With modern technology, your child can now become the hero of the story. With all the different themes of the personalized children books, the fact that an education element is introduced and the child is learning does not seem a chore to the child but a delight as they are caught up in the story on how they rescued a friend or solved a problem.

Personalized children’s books make wonderful gifts! Children light up as they read how they are the hero of the story and thus begin a lifelong addiction of reading. These books usually become heirlooms that family members can feel good about buying for a child to help develop that love of reading. Books are gifts that are welcome at any celebration in a child’s growing up years; birthdays, holidays, small celebrations throughout childhood.

Children’s books help young people understand the world around them and how they fit into that world. Children’s fiction gives children the chance to explore the world from different perspectives, broadening their sense of what it means to be a human being. Books for children, including audio books, help children develop self-esteem and empathy for other people and other forms of life. Even for very young children, hearing stories and looking at colors and faces in board books has meaning.

The Early Books

For young children the experience of books, starting with picture books, is enhanced by the relationship with the reader. Reading to children (which may mean looking at pictures together) not only has a powerful effect on the children’s future ability to learn, it also associates the pleasure of books with the comfort of the reader’s attention. Research shows that reading to children brings many benefits. Taking children to a library exposes them to the world of books and gives them the chance to choose books. An enjoyable experience in a library, even for pre-readers, helps establish a love of and comfort with books.

Books for Young Readers

Once young people learn to read themselves they have many exciting and enjoyable experiences awaiting them. They can lose themselves in the adventures of other young people. They can explore subjects that interest them. They can relax with a book, needed break from a high-paced and stressful world. Reading brings with it a sense of accomplishment and independence. As a kindergartner is on the cusp of learning to read, he or she often experiences a powerful frustration and desire.

Coloring books and activity books give kids the opportunity to interact with books. Children’s cookbooks teach young people the satisfaction of creating something valuable by following directions. Well into adulthood many people remember the pictures they colored, the food they made, and the dots they connected through interactive books. Such activity-based books are ideal homeschool books.

Poetry for Children

In a certain sense, poetry combines music and literature. Starting with nursery rhymes, moving to folk songs, and continuing through understanding of the power of poetic language, poetry expresses what prose misses. Too often, however, parents steer their children away from poetry, perhaps because of their own discomfort or misunderstanding of the medium.

Books and Electronic Media

Many different forms of electronic media now compete with children’s books for the attention of young people. The complete array of available media enhances learning opportunities as long as a balance is maintained. Just as television did not replace radio a generation ago, electronic media will not replace books. Each place a different role in preparing young people for the full experience of the worlds they inhabit.

When researching curriculum for home schooling you will find there are many options available. If you are new to homes schooling, choosing home schooling curriculum may be overwhelming. Many parents who home school do not have a background in education or may work full time outside the home so need more support when choosing curriculum for their children. In this case, choosing a packaged curriculum will be the best option. With a packaged curriculum, everything will come included. The textbooks, tests, teaching aides, report cards, everything you need to successfully home school your children. Parents who are not able to devote all their time to the home schooling of their children will find this option very beneficial. Often, when using a packaged curriculum, you will have the support of trained and credentialed support staff to assist and answer questions when needed. You also have the option of enrolling your children in an online school so they are taught by teachers via the Internet.

For those parents who are more familiar with home schooling, or even have an education background, an option for choosing home schooling curriculum is to mix and match from the different programs available. Because children are different, one package might not suite the needs of your children in total. You may feel it’s better to choose different curriculum for different packages and teach that way rather than using one package that might not meet the needs of your family. When you pick the curriculum you want to work with, you give yourself and your children freedom to work in a way that benefits both them and you. The one issue with teaching in this way is you will need to have some experience. If you are new to home schooling, this may not be the route to take right away. Give home schooling some time and learn what curriculum you really like, and the one’s you do not and you will have a better feel for how to make the curriculum you want for your children.

Another great thing about being able to choose your own home schooling curriculum is the ability to incorporate your Religion into your teaching. Public schools are not allowed to have any form on Religion taught in their schools, so unless you pay to send your children to a private school that will teach them Religion, they will not learn about it. By home schooling your children, you have the ability to teach them about their religion in the way you see fit. You can infuse your faith and morals into your teachings. Your children may have a writing assignment that needs to be completed, and you can have them write about a Religious icon or celebration where as in a public school they would not be allowed to do this.

Nowadays, a lot of educational allowances are accessible to families in order to assist them with the extraordinary costs of giving special educational or related services to children with special needs. This, very often could include a very gifted child with certain physical and mental disabilities.

Assessment of developmental problems

Kids with developmental problems are entitled to educational evaluations as part of the medical clearance process. No sooner has it been suspected than parents ought to describe the child’s developmental problems on their medical history form.

This is so that evaluation and treatment plans of the childs educational needs may be devised early in the child’s life. Experts, with special education degrees, in the field emphasize the importance of early intervention.

Children with learning problems ought not to be considered abnormal. They just have a different way for handling information. The solution lies in parents and teachers finding out what the childs processing system is as it helps the kids compensate with their strengths. Since developmental problems affect several aspects of a child’s physical and psychological health, oftentimes the assessments are extensive.

The assessment of a child having trouble in school could include an educational evaluation as well as the special needs of a child such as speech, hearing, and neurological examinations, plus a series of psychiatric interviews.

Processing a childs developmental problem

If developmental problem is suspected when parents are abroad, the family should have the child examined by a Regional Medical Officer, Regional Psychiatrist, or Nurse Practitioner. Parents also ought to get written reports from a school so that the problem can be fully understood.

It is unlikely that a full assessment will be completed immediately. The complications of the issues often call for a multi-specialty approach. This is why evaluations are usually done. However, a medical evacuation is not normally required.

After the assessment is done, the child will be cleared to return to post. Then the school at post will have the benefit of the childs specific educational recommendations in trying to develop a program for the child. However, before the child is cleared for an onward post, a letter from the proposed new school will is required.

When making a clearance decision for the child, assessors and the Medical Division often consider the appropriateness of boarding school placement or home study options or online special education courses.

Any parent will tell you that a toddler is a bundle of infinite energy. If you doubt it, you can ask anyone who has tried to keep up with a toddler’s energy level. This is because this is the stage in human life where we become aware of our surroundings. This makes toddlers very curious about everything and eager to learn about their surroundings. They are also eager to try all sorts of physical activities like crawling, walking and even running. They also try climbing and to investigate their surroundings.

It is then very important for parents to provide toddlers with toys that will further stimulate them in both their physical and mental abilities. Since this is the start of a kid’s learning, parents need to provide toddlers with toys that keep them learning and continue to make them curious about the toy and their surroundings. It is also important that physical activities are encouraged to allow them grow stronger bones and stimulate their muscles. Because of toddler’s curious nature, It is important that they are provided with toys that are safe even with minimal parental supervision. Toys with parts that are too small may be choke hazards. While toys that stimulate physical activities need to be sturdy to ensure that your toddler does not fall down while learning to walk.

There are a myriad of toys available for toddlers. There a push toys that toddlers can hold on to while trying to crawl and walk. There are also mini basketball games that can encourage a toddler not just to walk to the ring but also to put the ball inside. This can stimulate his leg muscles and sense of balance while at the same time allowing him to think about where to put the mini basketball. There are also small puzzles with common shapes that allow a toddler to think and determine where the shapes go to. This allows your toddler to start recognizing shapes and colors and effectively work with them.

Regardless of what kind of toy you will buy for your toddler, do not forget that these toys need to stimulate both your toddler’s mind and physical abilities. These toys also need to be safe for toddlers to use even with minimal parent supervision. It is however advised that parents keep a close eye on their toddler regardless of what activity the toddler is doing.

Studies show that children between 0-6 go through stages for acquiring particular skills. While in these stages they are able to grasp and retain information quite easily. This is the reason that early childhood education is so pivotal to developing your child’s ability to learn. The five stages of development are described below and will hopefully give you incite on how your child learns and develops so you can provide the support needed for maximum results.

Sensorial

This stage starts from the birth of the child. The child learns about the world with the use of the five senses. Through the use of sight, taste, touch, smell and hearing, the child can learn about its surroundings. This stage is more apparent as children reach around 18 months old. You will notice that they have a tendency to place objects in their mouths as they attempt to learn from their environment with taste. Parents should ensure that children are placed in safe situations so they can learn in this way as children with low sensorial skills will not learn as quickly in their natural environment.

Social

Social skills make-up a portion of the character of people and creates a foundation for relationships and help to label and rank them within social classes. Studies have shown that children with bad social skills may experience issues with forming relationships, entering unfamiliar situations and be of higher risk of becoming involved in criminal activities or underage pregnancy.

Language

Some parents don’t understand the rate at which children are able to learn language at an early age. At around 2 ½ to 4 years old, children reach a stage where they become highly sensitive to learning phonetic sounds. You may even notice that they are able to learn the entire alphabet within a couple of weeks. When they can recognize letters phonetically, they are able to read phonetic books before they even start school. This is an advantageous jumpstart as there may be other issues for them to deal with when they have to transition from preschool to school. It is noticed however, that children who have missed out in this stage in their development have a great difficulty in grasping this skill at a later age. In some cases, children have lost the inability to learn this method and have to learn to read through sight words.

Math

As a parent, you should ensure to expose your children to counting at an early age. Counting is the basic language for math after all. Just like with language, children enter an impressionable stage where they can learn counting and number recognition without much difficulty. Perseverance is essential to helping your child learn math skills. If you succeed, your child will grasp the concept of numbers with no problem. Studies have shown that children who enter school with no counting skills have a harder time understanding math.

Cognitive

Cognitive development includes the use of large motor skills such as running and jumping and fine motor skills such as pre-reading and pre-writing skills. Examples of activities which develop large motor skills are simple yard games like playing with hoops while activities to encourage fine motor skills are puzzles and coloring. Having highly developed motor skills boosts concentration and memory while poor motor skills sometimes show learning difficulties in a child.

Most child care experts and child education experts agree that parents should be worried about the computer games their children play. While most children enjoy playing computer games, these toys are not always useful or appropriate for children. In the best of circumstances, games take children away from school work and physical activities. At worst, many games give children less than ideal messages about violence, society, and advertised products. Many computer games simply have little educational value.

Computer games also have been linked to some serious physical problems in children. Some experts have blamed computer games and video games for increased rates of obesity among children. Studies have shown that children also run a high risk of repetitive strain injury (RSI) when they spend time playing computer games.

To reduce the risk of RSI, you will want to limit your child’s computer sessions to less than an hour. Keeping the computer in a visible area of the house will make it easier for you to enforce this rule.

You will also want to create an ergonomically correct computer station for your child. Even if your child will be using the computer for less than an hour a day, make sure that your child has a comfortable, child-sized chair to use.

What Can You Do?

Experts suggest that educational games are not only a more age-appropriate alternative to violent computer games, but studies show that computer games with educational content can help build skills such as math, vocabulary, writing, geography, mapping, thinking, memory, science, and other skills needed for success in school. Some educators claim that computer games put play back into learning and encourage children to learn even after school and during playtime.

Educational computer games in fact have many benefits. They are not very expensive, but can often help your child with difficult areas in school. For example, if your child is having a hard time learning to read, computer games can help improve your child’s reading skills as part of a game. Your child will not feel discouraged and may even come to see reading as fun.

There are in fact few drawbacks to educational computer games. Some parents have noted that many educational titles are aimed at younger children, but many software manufacturer’s today also develop good instructional content for older children. One problem that many parents have is to get children – and especially older children – to even try educational computer games.

If your children already love computer games, simply banning games can feel like a punishment. Children may resist having their entertainment taken away from them. A better alternative may be to make use of computer games to promote learning by selecting from the educational computer games available. Educational computer games are meant to develop skills such as math skills, reasoning skills, reading skills, and word skills. They are also designed to be fun so that children actually enjoy playing these games.

In order to bring educational computer games successfully into your home, you need to set up a system that works. First, you need to find some educational software that your children will enjoy. Then, you will have to suggest these games to your children. Many parents have found that linking rewards to educational game works wonders. This will help encourage children to enjoy the games more and stick with the games. For young children, having a parent play a game with them can be rewarding in itself. For older children, prizes and rewards often work best.

Paying for your child’s education is an expensive business for any parent. Therefore, you need to plan to save for your child’s education as soon as possible, and you need to know you are contributing to your child’s education savings fund in the most effective way.

1 Start saving for your child’s education before they’re born

If you are planning to have children or if you already have one on the way then you know they are going to need to go to school, and complete some sort of study once they finish school. Whether your child decides to go to university, TAFE, a technical college or take up an apprenticeship you can start saving for their future now.

It doesn’t matter to begin with that you don’t know exactly what you are saving for because you know that in one form or another you are going to help pay for your child’s education. If your children are very young or still on the way you may also like to think about whether you will pay for just their high school education and encourage them to apply for a scholarship or get a part time job to pay their way through college, or whether you want to take care of all of their education costs so they can start their adult life debt free and with their own savings in the bank.

2 Research the costs of your child’s education

This is where you need to start thinking about the types of education you are saving for because having a savings target will help you stay on track with your savings plan, as well as help you reassess your savings and funds along the way. Also don’t forget to calculate the costs of the education, plus the incidental costs too; these include textbooks, workbooks, accommodation and travel.

Knowing when your child will need access to their education fund will also help you calculate how much you need. If you are saving for the college tuition of an unborn child you need to project the costs to what they will be 20 years in the future, if your child is already at school you only need to work out what tertiary education will cost in around 10 years.

3 Saving and investing tools, for your child’s education

So now you have an idea of how much you need to save for your child’s education, make sure you are using the right saving and investing tools to get you to that goal. Two of the main financial products you may choose start your child’s education savings with are a high interest savings account, or a term deposit account.

A high interest savings account is a flexible online savings account which allows you to make deposits from your everyday transaction account whenever it suits you; you can even set up a regular transfer every pay day to make sure that constant contributions are being made to your child’s future, without you having to remember. High interest savings accounts are usually fee free and will calculate a high rate of interest on your savings daily and pay you the compounded interest monthly. Because a high interest savings account is so easy to open and use, you can set up an education savings plan when you first start saving for your child’s future no matter how old they are, and you know your savings will be safe and will keep growing as they are in a stable bank account, rather than a sometimes unpredictable investment portfolio.

A term deposit account requires an initial investment to offer you substantial returns, and the longer the term you choose, the more interest you will be able to earn on your investment. You can often choose a term for your term deposit from one month to five years, but the longer the term, the better the returns and the greater the investment amount, the higher the interest rate you’ll be able to negotiate. Therefore, you may want to consider transferring some or all of the funds you have grown in a high interest savings account, into a term deposit account when your child starts high school, to give your education savings a boost in time for your child to decide what they want to study and where.

4 Education funds

There are a range of education funds and state operated savings plans which can help you save for your child’s education in a reduced tax or tax free account. Often education funds are run in a similar way to a scholarship plan and this is what makes them tax effective, some education saving plan contributions can even be tax free. Often an education fund can be opened for any child up to the age of 10 years old, and you or your parents – the grandparents – can make contributions regularly, or in lump sum contributions when you are able. Education funds will allow you to save for your child’s school or tertiary education and can be paid out as an allowance when your child goes to college to cover their books and living expenses.

5 Prepaid tuition

There are also state run programs which allow you to purchase a year (or however many years you choose) of tuition for your child at the cost they are now, to be redeemed when your child begins their study. This helps you overcome the issue of inflation affecting your savings, and saving an amount which covers the costs for your child’s education now, may not be enough to cover the costs when they actually need the funds.

Elementary education is usually thought of as the first section of compulsory education that children undergo. Depending upon how the school district or state defines this, the elementary education period is Kindergarten through fifth grade usually followed by middle school or junior high which is grades 6 – 8. Some systems call for junior high to be 7 – 9 with the elementary grades being K – 6. The school is considered as the children’s second home and their teachers are secondary parents. It is very vital to acknowledge the importance of elementary education. This time children start to learn about the basic ideas that initially come out their mind.

There is a necessity to universalize elementary education. If before, parents do not give much importance to the education of their children, it is of a different thing nowadays. We are living in a world of competition. To give better opportunities for everybody, illiteracy should be eradicated in the society. The challenge for the government today is to make the needed reforms and promote local planning as regards the strategies of motivating the leaders on how to expound and improve primary education in particular. However, several predicaments get higher especially when it deals about the impact of the continuously increasing tuition fees and textbook prices. This is a major reason why parents are discouraged to send their children to school. Their parents at home cannot provide the learning that the students can get from their school.

Thus, the parents should not be contented by merely teaching their children with ‘this is’ and ‘those are’. The children need a thorough instruction about the things around them. The only solution for the problem is for them to undergo elementary education. This is what can make them somebody in the future. This could even be their way towards achieving success. Do not limit your children from discovering things because this can make them a better and responsible citizen of the country. Elementary education is also a prerequisite for entering high school. You cannot be admitted to the next degree if you are not able to finish elementary. This is where teacher will teach you about the basic things. The government is making a collaborative effort with the private institutions to provide scholarship for those students that deserve yet cannot afford to have their elementary education. They are granting financial incentives just to sustain the need for education of these children.

Elementary education should be given the highest priority because this is the children’s stepping-stone for them to pursue higher goals. If they are able to undergo their elementary education, there will have a great probability that they will continue up to high school or even a higher degree. If they are able to do so, then they can have an opportunity to find the suited job for them. If it is also their luck, the job may even seek for them if he they are able to make exemplary performance during their schooling days. All wonderful opportunities are possible if education will not be taken for granted. Remember that your journey to a thousand miles can begin with your first step.

Thus, the elementary education that you will be fulfilling will serve as a training ground for you and the first step that you can take for reaching your success. Sending a child in their elementary education is a sole responsibility of their parents. If they care about the future of the children then they have to make all the means just to provide their children with this right. Elementary education will serve as their primary weapon against illiteracy. Elementary education is no doubt of extreme importance, as everything a child learns in these early days is built on as they get older. It is therefore of great importance to choose the best way for your child to get this education.

We’re living in the 21st century that science and technique develop non-stop and require us to have to learn more to follow. So training children about critical thinking skills is very useful, it’ll help them have sefl-reliant, creative. They could be teaching the basic building blocks associated with critical thinking during the K-12 years. Here are some reasons why critical thinking skills are a necessary skill for children during the K-12 years.

Critical thinking is an essential set of reasoning and communication skills required to operate effectively in society. The basic concept of “don’t believe everything you read” comes to mind. It is an essential reasoning skill. The word “skill” is key here because it is more than just common sense or something that children learn as a natural course of growing up. It is a skill that must be taught and learned. Proficiency in critical thinking is essential to lifelong learning and to dealing effectively with a world of accelerating change. To get a better feel for this, consider the following: For starters, compare how we think about the job market today to how your children may have to think in the future.

For example, today we think: here is my resume; hire me; tell me what to do and then pay me an hourly wage for doing it. This thinking evolved out of the industrial revolution. It assumes stable business content, stable business processes and established companies and corporations who capitalize on the content and processes, produce products, hire people, etc. This basic thinking still exists today.

On the other hand, in the future, companies will be faced with a rapidly changing world in which much business content becomes obsolete every few years. This means companies and corporations must continuously change, adjust and integrate new information and new content into their business processes. Otherwise, they cannot compete in the evolving global information economy.

Employees of the future must adapt as well. Employees of the future are children today. Therefore, children must have the skills necessary to advance beyond the tell-me-what-to-do type jobs. It is easy to say companies will simply re-train their employees when necessary. This may be true today; however, in the future workplace, corporate sponsored re-training may not be an option.

Think about it. By the time corporations pay for and establish formal training programs to train employees on new processes, the processes may be obsolete. So, as workers, our children must be able to train themselves. They must know how to access raw information, process it and apply it real time on the job. There will be no books, no manuals, no teachers, no corporate training programs just a vast sea of raw information. To be functional, our children must have critical thinking skills. They must have the skills necessary to access this vast sea of raw information, critically evaluated it, weed out what is not applicable and effectively apply information in ways that add value to the business processes of their employers.

Equiping critical thinking skills for children during the K-12 years is very important, therefore, academia and education researchers have tried to combine critical thinking in early K-12 education because today, combining critical thinking in education K-12 incorporate.

Most of us feel terrified once we meet children who can be as smart as a older person than them. We often call these children gifted ones, because they own the knowledge that can be acquired by someone older. Little does everyone know, there are ways in which parents can help their children develop the mental or intellectual capacities

We know that we have the capacity to store and process information to use it for a greater purpose. Charles Darwin stipulated in his theory of natural selections that animals, most especially human beings, constantly think of ways on how to outwit and outrun their predators so that they can survive. This theory has existed for quite sometime, and it only proves to show that humans can be intelligent as they wish to be.

Charles Darwin’s hypothesis is a clear explanation of the heights that the human brain can reach. All parents need to do is to figure out how to harness one’s intellectual development so as the child will perform in his full potential. Starting from the conception of the child, the mother must be fully aware of her diet. Whatever the mother eats becomes quite reflective of the future potentials of the child. It helps if the mother would take in vitamins and minerals to support the child’s intellectual development.

The next thing to pay attention to is giving enough focus on child education. Some people may think that education during the early years is not important, because a child’s parents can teach the children some basic skills that they need to develop. There’s nothing wrong with this, however, it is advised that they should bring their child to a school specializing in early education so that he will have a good intellectual and social development. The teachers know their curriculum so that the intellectual development of the child will be boost up to its highest level. School also gives a chance for your children to be in contact with others, so that he would not be left out of any activities.

Another point is to have a home learning environment. You should buy educational toys which your child may play with. There is a variety of toys related to different subjects. Not only will the child learn, but they would also have fun while doing the activities.

Here are just some of the ways to improve the intellectual development of a child. There are still a lot of ways, but following these key steps is certainly worth the try.

Nowadays homeschooling your child has many usefulness when private schools become more and more expensive. Home education is also much more flexible because the family can choose convenient timetables for them and their child. Because of the structure of homeschooling programs, all the lessons can be fitted to suit the child’s learning style, pace and ability.

The first thing you need to do after deciding to home educate you child is to develop a clear curriculum. The flexibility that comes with home based schooling allows you to teach something in many different ways which can be a positive thing but also a negative one, because you risk providing an unbalanced education that can affect your child’s learning experience.

Setting a clear learning plan will help you be more effective as a teacher. A good start would be to look at the standard curriculum for his grade in a public or private school. This way you could notice the expectations for any given subject and decide on your targets and timeline.

Another very important aspect of home based schooling is discipline as you must draw a line between home and learning at home. The familiar environment can prove to be a distraction for your child. That’s why you, as the parent, must focus 100 percent on his education between “school hours”. Imagine teaching your child at the same time as trying to cook dinner or watch the Monday night sitcom. This attitude will send him the message that his education is not a main priority to you and he will treat it likewise.

Because you and your child learn together, not only will you develop a priceless learning experience but you’ll also fortify your relationship with him – a very significant benefit.

Cisco Certified Internetworking Expert (CCIE) is arguably the best networking certification offered today and the certification itself is not easily achievable. Therefore, for the prolific effort that the Cisco CCIE Training demands, it is necessary to keep the end goals in mind instead of trivialities. The best way to select a Cisco CCIE Boot Camp would be to look at the basic factors in the learning process instead.
Cisco CCIE Training Instructors

Let’s tick off the basic requirements for the trainer:

Should be CCIE Number CCIE-certified.
Should be up to date with the current trends regarding CCIE Exams.
Should have training experience.
Should be a good teacher; even the best of students can be lousy teachers because they do not know how or when to instruct/guide.
Should be able to satisfy you when you interview him/her.

That last bit sounds like a dodgy piece of advice, doesn’t it? The point is that you are putting your future in this instructor’s hands. For the course of your Cisco CCIE Boot Camp and up until you clear the CCIE exam, you will be turning to this one person with your questions and to ask for guidance. If you can answer questions about his own course, the number of attempts it took for him to clear the exam and everything, it only gives you a clear idea of what the person learned. If he can impart the knowledge to you without you going through those multiple attempts, you will actually benefit a lot. That is not to say an instructor would only be good if he had failed himself, but just to point out that multiple attempts at the course should not always count as a negative against the instructor. If it made him an improved teacher, that’s all the better for you.

Cisco CCIE Courses
Cisco CCIE training is about learning to be a professional recognized for your expertise. It is a tough test to clear and you need things on your side when you actually sit in the Cisco exam. So while what the instructor learned when he cleared the exam was right for that point in time, you want the Cisco CCIE courses you study to be up to date. When you are putting yourself through a Cisco CCIE Boot Camp it is vital that what you learn is in line with the CCIE Lab Exam Blueprint so there is no time or effort wasted.

Cisco CCIE Lab Training & Equipment
Along with the Cisco CCIE written training, the lab training is just as important, or maybe even more so since it deals with the practical implementation of everything you learn. A good Cisco CCIE lab boot camp will provide you an actual lab with all the equipment you need to practice. The best in the business will make sure Cisco CCIE lab training is like a rehearsal for the actual exam itself. No sharing of equipment. If your lab partner does everything, or even half of the practical work, it means your time in the lab has not been fully utilized to help you learn. The same waste of time is valid for when you are waiting to take your turn on the equipment.

Learning to read is not a natural skill that a child is born with. Many parents think that if their child is intelligent, curious and they read to them a lot,

they will learn how to read without any problems. But evidence does not lead educators to accept these assumptions.

To learn to read, children must grasp certain skills necessary for reading. And those reading skills need to be taught explictly. No doubt, there will

always be a small percentage of children who manage to learn to read without much explicit instruction. Those children, whether we recognize it or not,

are able to teach themselves to read. The important thing to recognize here is that there is teaching involved. Reading is not an innate skill that we

are born with. For all but a few children, learning to read requires explicit instruction. Learning to read well means mastering the major components of

reading instruction:

* phonemic (or sound unit) awareness
* phonics
* sounding out
* blending

Further, if a child enter the first grade without knowing how to read, this is not a cause for concern. The ideal window of opportunity for learning to

read is at 4 to 6 years old. Anyway, this does not mean that a 6 year old should be reading texts. It means that this age range is the right time for

learning the reading skills that build a student up to the point that he can read texts fluently. Beyond the age of 6 or 7, teaching a child to read is about

catching up. As a parent, you should make the effort to be aware of where your child is developmentally. By the age of 4-6, they should be able to

identify letters, show interest in reading, complete sentences in familiar bedtime stories, etc. Not enough emphasis can be placed on how important it

is for a child to develop reading fluency. If they don’t read fluently, the chances for success, in terms of job skills, financial stability, and academic

achievement are greatly deminished.

Getting an education can take time and money. But for many careers, it is necessary in order to earn promotions or even find an entry level position. Many people each yearenroll in degree programs at colleges, tech schools, apprenticeship programs, and online classes in order to better themselves and get the most from their careers. There are many degree programs to choose from when trying to earn an education. Some people may try two or three programs before deciding what they want to do when they graduate. Many times people will return to college to further their education by earning an advanced degree in their field or one that is closely related.

It is important to consider what one’s interests are before deciding to invest time and money in the costs of an education. Another important factor is where to go to college.

Some people stay at home with their parents in order to save money, while others go away to college to learn how to be independent. There are additional costs to going to away to college such as travel expenses, dorm room expenses, and every day expenses. Some students get jobs, while some find scholarships and grants to pay for their education.

Once a college has been selected and travel arrangements have been made, many students will have to leave their families. This can be devastating at first, but eventually, learning how to be a responsible adult becomes easier. Students who decide to take online classes may not have to travel, but they will still have to find time to devote to their studies. Either way, getting an education is not always easy. Changing time schedules to meet the needs of study time, leaving familiar people and places to go to a new place, and learning a new skill that will shape a person’s career are big steps to take. Even those who are returning to school after being absent from it for a while will have to make adjustments in their lives. This can take a few months and may require the help of family members and friends. Returning to school can be just as frightening sometimes. But deciding to get an education is the best goal to achieve. Learning more about the world, learning about a new or familiar field, and meeting new people are all part of the college experience.

People who have college degrees will usually earn more in their career than those who don’t, they will be able to solve problems in life much easier, and they will be able to meet people easier than those who do not have a college degree.

Most parents will agree that it is a wonderful experience to cuddle up with their child and a good book. Few people will say that about flash cards or pages of math problems. For that reason, we have prepared this booklet to offer some math activities that are meaningful as well as fun. You might want to try doing some of them to help your child explore relationships, solve problems, and see math in a positive light. These activities use materials that are easy to find. They have been planned so you and your child might see that math is not just work we do at school but, rather, a part of life.

It is important for-home and school to join hands. By fostering a positive attitude about math at home, we can help our children learn math at school.

Math is everywhere and yet, we may not recognize it because it doesn’t look like the math we did in school. Math in the world around us sometimes seems invisible. But math is present in our world all the time–in the workplace, in our homes, and in life in general.

You may be asking yourself, “How is math everywhere in my life? I’m not an engineer or an accountant or a computer expert!” Math is in your life from the time you wake until the time you go to sleep. You are using math each time you set your alarm, buy groceries, mix a baby’s formula, keep score or time at an athletic event, wallpaper a room, decide what type of tennis shoe to buy, or wrap a present. Have you ever asked yourself, “Did I get the correct change?” or “Do I have enough gasoline to drive 20 miles?” or “Do I have enough juice to fill all my children’s thermoses for lunch?” or “Do I have enough bread for the week?” Math is all this and much, much more.

How do you feel about math? Your feelings will have an impact on how your children think about math and themselves as mathematicians. Take a few minutes to answer these questions:

* Did you like math in school?
* Do you think anyone can learn math?
* Do you think of math as useful in everyday life?
* Do you believe that most jobs today require math skills?

If you answer “yes” to most of these questions, then you are probably encouraging your child to think mathematically. This book contains some ideas that will help reinforce these positive attitudes about math.

If you feel uncomfortable about math, here are some ideas to think about.

Math is a very important skill, one which we will all need for the future in our technological world. It is important for you to encourage your children to think of themselves as mathematicians who can reason and solve problems.

Math is a subject for all people. Math is not a subject that men can do better than women. Males and females have equally strong potential in math.

People in the fine arts also need math. They need math not only to survive in the world, but each of their areas of specialty requires an in-depth understanding of some math, from something as obvious as the size of a canvas, to the beats in music, to the number of seats in an audience, to computer-generated artwork.

Calculators and computers require us to be equally strong in math. Theft presence does not mean there is less need for knowing math. Calculators demand that people have strong mental math skills–that they can do math in their heads. A calculator is only as accurate as the person putting in the numbers. It can compute; it cannot think! Therefore, we must be the thinkers. We must know what answers are reasonable and what answers are outrageously large or small.

Positive attitudes about math are important for our country. The United States is the only advanced industrial nation where people are quick to admit that “I am not good in math.” We need to change this attitude, because mathematicians are a key to our future.

The workplace is rapidly changing. No longer do people need only the computational skills they once needed in the 1940s. Now workers need to be able to estimate, to communicate mathematically, and to reason within a mathematical context. Because our world is so technologically oriented, employees need to have quick reasoning and problem-solving skills and the capability to solve problems together. The work force will need to be confident in math.

To be mathematically confident means to realize the importance of mathematics and feel capable of learning to

* Use mathematics with ease;

* Solve problems and work with others to do so;

* Demonstrate strong reasoning ability;

* See more than one way to approach a problem;

* Apply mathematical ideas to other situations; and

* Use technology.

Childhood years are the best times to learn. Somehow, a person’s comprehension is at its peak during childhood. Parents should take advantage of these learning years to ingrain the values of life in their children.

If you’re a parent, teach them positive habits so that they will know and see the beauty that life has to offer. Make them enthusiastic about life. Instill into their hearts and minds all the wonders and magnificence of being alive by living life to its fullest in a positive way.

There’s a startling difference between children learning through self-discovery, and children learning through self-discovery with proper guidance. The first things that children learn are usually the things that stay with them and mold formative years until they reach adulthood.

Let us suppose you let your children learn through self-discovery. To a certain extent, self-discovery is good since it develops full independence and self-reliance. However, the learning process might be slow. In a sense, it is like a trial and error experience for children. They have to segregate the good from the bad, the right from the wrong, what they like and what they don’t. It is most likely that what they will like are the ones that come easy to them or the ones that they enjoy the most. And the ones that they enjoy the most might not necessarily be the good ones. Without proper guidance, what they like and enjoy the most might actually be hurting them although they are not aware of it. Perhaps later, if they find out that they picked the wrong choices, it may be too late.

With self-discovery through proper guidance, you will be able to leave room for them to develop independence and self-reliance. At the same time, show them what is right and what is wrong. Explain to them why. If possible, cite instances or examples based on true-to-life events to make them more convincing and realistic. The more realistic they are, the more easily the children are convinced. Likewise, try teaching them in a friendly and humorous atmosphere. Children are more attentive and eager to learn when all (both teachers and students) are in an easy mood. You will know and feel their eagerness to learn through the sparkle in their eyes and by the way they answer your questions. You can be sure that what they learn from you is acceptable to them and will stay with them. That is why, as a parent, you must show enthusiasm in life to your children.

There’s a third method of making children learn. That is through proper guidance leaving negligible room for self-discovery. But there are drawbacks. You take away from them the benefits of self-reliance and independence. The guidance you devote to them may be good and well intended, but they must not rely on you on almost everything they do. They become decision-dependent on you. There are instances wherein this type of guidance might be worse than giving no guidance at all.

There are parents who underwent hardships during their childhood, strived, and became successful financially. Although they are financially in the position to guide and assist their children to a better life, they prefer that their children undergo the same difficult experience they underwent during their younger years. Their reason: so that their children will value and experience the same things they went through. This may be applicable to stubborn and rebellious youngsters, but not to disciplined ones. Why must their sons and daughters repeat the same difficulties? There’s no reason to. This is like punishing the innocent. Instead of repeating the experience, they should learn from it. Life is too short to repeat unsavory experiences.

One of the best ways to broaden your children’s knowledge about life is by traveling. The world – its varied people, places, and cultures – has a lot of information to offer. It is perhaps as important as the conventional classroom. If you are financially able, traveling is one of the best educational experiences you can give your children. Look for exhibits or world fairs, and take your children there. Books are the next best things. It’s traveling by reading.

Fill your children with thoughts of self-importance, confidence, and positive attitude so that there will be no room for negative thinking. More importantly, fill their world with laughter, love, and understanding. You‘ll never go wrong.

Language and speech are primarily learned through imitation and observation. During infancy, babies listen to their parents talk and they pay close attention when someone talks to them. This observation of casual conversation is the foundation for a child’s understanding of their native language.

There are several activities and games you and your child can engage in to enhance her language development. While your little one is still an infant, encourage her to imitate simple syllables like “ma” or “da”. Repeat any sounds your baby attempts and praise her efforts. Talk to your infant often, using everyday activities like feedings or bath time as opportunities to develop new language skills. Describe everything you do and name the everyday objects you and your little one come in contact with.

Gestures and understanding their meanings are an important part of early language skills so teach your infant to wave goodbye, to nod yes, and to shake her head no. Imitating these simple gestures will help her learn nursery rhymes and songs during her toddler years. Reading to your child on a daily basis is vital to language development. Begin reading to your baby at birth and continue throughout childhood.

By her first birthday, your baby will most likely know how to say a few words. Encourage her speech by expanding on her simple words and phrases. Read picture books that emphasize animals, colors, shapes, or everyday objects. Say the names of the pictures and allow your little one to point to the correct object. Remember to praise her efforts and attempts.

Once your child reaches her preschool years, she will have a good grasp on language and should be talking in complete sentences. Continue to read to your child. Reading favorite story books again and again has been proven to enhance early language development and can improve reading comprehension skills. Nursery rhymes and silly songs also help your child learn speech patterns and language skills.

Talk to your preschooler and listen when she talks to you. Repeat her sentences to correct any pronunciation or grammatical errors without chastising her mistakes. Encourage her oral language and her vocabulary skills by naming common objects, familiar people, and body parts and then describing them. Ask questions that require your child to make a choice rather than answer yes or no. Support your preschoolers emerging language skills by requiring her to use her words to ask for things or to explain her feelings when she gets upset.

Make your own picture book with your child. Help your preschooler colllect pictures of her favorite toys, animals, people, and things and then allow her to sort the pictures into groups. Glue the pictures onto paper and have your child dictate the labels as you write. Read your picture book together often and add new pictures and words as her vocabulary grows.

Get Equifax Credit Watch

Joining writing and math, reading is one of the most significant skills a child will encounter in school. Unfortunately, it is also one of the leading subjects most often dreaded and difficult to get youngsters to show an interest in. However, an increasing amount of parents and teachers are now discovering the ease and convenience of using audio books as a powerful learning tool.

Audio books present reading in a whole new light, as authors, professional actors, sound effects, and entertaining music bring to life the words that decorate the pages of books. Some of the most involved audio books for children assemble an entire cast of character voices to enhance the overall experience of reading along with audio.

Creating a Relationship with Words

As a child hears a book read on tape, they enter a journey where words seem friendlier and more approachable. The possibilities of reading become clearer, as an audio book is great at illustrating where learning the skill can really take you. A young reader is also more apt to establish a pattern of concentrating on the sounds of words without the interruption of personal reading obstacles. An audio also helps create the building blocks necessary for fluent reading.

Improved Listening Skills

Since audio books are read aloud, a significant understanding and exposure to the art of listening is cultivated. The skill of listening plays an important role in learning how to read better and is an ability that goes hand and hand when training to tackle a wide range of reading materials. As a result, a child’s level of comprehension also becomes nurtured.

Create a Growing Interest

Today, a great deal of students shows little to no interest in reading because they’ve received minimal exposure to the positive and fun aspects of books. Audio books for children most often highlight interesting sound effects, catchy tunes, and changes in voices that are appealing and motivating for young readers. The combination of different voices, silly dialogue, and a playful presentation provides children of varying ages encouragement for a growing interest in what they can accomplish when learning how to read.

Audio books also allow narrators to enhance the storytelling aspect of a tale to present reading as a source of enjoyment rather than a forced skill taught in school. It is through this entertaining journey that children become excited and enthusiastic about the reading process, as they learn a deeper understanding of language, pronunciation, and the meaning of words.

Building a Vocabulary

A child is most likely to learn new vocabulary words by listening to their favorite stories on an audio book. Young readers additionally begin to develop a familiarity with common words and phrases that ultimately make learning how to read a much easier process to navigate.

Fun with Family and Friends

When friends gather together to listen to an audio book, the possibilities of a blossoming imagination are truly never ending. Just as Barbie dolls and action figures allow kids to explore their creativity through playful dialogue and actions, an audio book can accomplish the same thing. This learning tool also makes a great activity that can involve the entire family. A great example is seen when traveling down the open road, as audio books can help keep the peace amongst passengers on long trips to Grandma’s house or family vacations.

As children, most of us learned the alphabet by singing it over and over. Teaching your child the alphabet can be accomplished in a similar manner. Even though there are many educational tools available, your child can engage in different forms of learning by using repetition.

Here are 5 ideas to introduce your child to the alphabet.

· Make an alphabet chart and add objects or pictures to correspond to the letters.

· Buy alphabet books.

· Use alphabet magnets on your refrigerator.

· Purchase alphabet blocks.

· Purchase a Leap Frog education toy to teach babies and toddlers.

The alphabet chart is one way to engage your child. Add corresponding pictures underneath the letters. By pointing to each letter and repeating it over and over, your child will be able to associate letters with objects.

Educational products such as Leap Frog are a viable method used to teach babies and toddlers. In combination with your own creative style, your child can have fun and learn at the same time. Also important are the use of visual aids, such as the alphabet chart mentioned earlier.

Fundamental in teaching and garnering a child’s attention, books can accomplish this in a variety of ways. Every page offers new insight to the child, and repeating the letters over and over allow the child to make the connection between the letters and the characters or objects in the book.

A variety of colorful magnets on refrigerator doors are another way to engage your child.

Because reading scores on a national level have gone down, you as a parent should take whatever measures necessary to ensure your child is able to read before attending school. When your child makes the connection between a letter and an object, the process of learning has just begun. Every word is fundamentally based on learning the alphabet. As an analogy, one could say reading is akin to walking. While walking properly is important for your child’s physical health; reading is important to the child’s mental health. When your child looks at a letter, such as P for peach; and you know the child fully understands that P is the first letter in the word peach, you may glimpse the excitement on your child’s face. To begin the process of learning, your child needs to make the journey on the path to communication and understanding.

The aforementioned 5 ideas to introduce your child to the alphabet are just tip of the iceberg; the real work lies ahead for you and your child. You, as a parent, are teaching your child and encouraging him or her to want to learn more. In addition, once your child begins to understand and recognize that letters have meaning, a new world will open up for them in which the ability to communicate, and fully understand the importance of learning will lead the child on a path to achievement.

Are you to blame for your child’s poor performance in school?

Does your child actually understand what they are reading? Poor comprehension is a major contributor to bad grades and frustration at school. It is often assumed by teachers and school systems that if a child does not have good comprehension by the fifth grade they never will. This is completely false.

Comprehension means understanding what you read. Not just saying the words, but truly understanding the meaning and being able to explain what you have read to someone else.

According to The National Adult Literacy Survey, National Center for Education Statistics: Nearly 50% of the Americans surveyed cannot read well enough to find a single piece of information in a short publication, nor can they make low level inferences based on what they read.

According to ACT(The independent, not-for-profit organization American College Tests, Iowa, 2005), Only Half of ACT Test-Takers Have College-Ready Reading Comprehension Skills

Many children and adults assume that everyone has the same understanding problems they do. Some assume they simply can’t read well, quit trying, and go on with their life. They do not realize that there are methods to improve comprehension.

Unfortunately, many students never receive the training they need in elementary and middle schools. The teachers may cover the basics of reading but never spend time teaching students comprehension methods. Teachers often assume that children either get-it or they don’t. This type of teaching has led to many frustrated students falsely assuming they are less intelligent than others. They were never taught to read like other students. The result is that they have no interest in reading and do poorly in school.

When a child enters high school, the teachers do not have time or interest to re-teach them how to read. Students are then bombarded with more reading requirements and expected to understand more advanced materials. They simply do not have the skills do perform well because they cannot understand what they are reading.

Who is to blame for this? The school systems can take some of the responsibility, but ultimately it is parents who have failed their children.
We all know that children whose parents read to them at a young age do better in school, but have you ever wondered why this was so? Parents are actually teaching reading and comprehension skills to young children. Even if the child is not old enough to read, parents can model skills for them that they will use later. The interactive experience helps a child build reading skills which makes them more prepared when they begin school.

Parents often misunderstand how this teaching works. The parent may read mechanically to the child which results in a bored, fidgety child who only learns that reading is boring and something they want to avoid. The parent thinks they are helping the child but they are actually damaging the child’s ability to read in the future.

A parent with poor comprehension may read poorly to a child and cause the child to become confused. This in turn teaches the child that reading is confusing and hard to understand even for adults.
Parents must learn how to read properly to their children and how to model good reading habits.

Parents must

*Model good reading habits
*Show a child that reading can be enjoyable
*Demonstrate how to extract meaning from the words beyond the literal meaning
*Stimulate a child’s imagination using associations with written words
*Make reading enjoyable

By showing your child that reading can be fun and interactive, you can open a new world to their child. Comprehension skills can improve your child’s school performance, increase their chances of attending college, and make their adult lives much more fulfilling by opening paths to better careers and to pleasure reading.

ADHD refers to attention-deficit-hyperactivity-disorder. Most children with this disorder suffer from hyperactivity and attention problems. Parents of children with ADHD are well aware that inattention and hyperactivity continue throughout the day. Occupying such children after school hours can be as challenging as keeping them safe during the school day.

In order to choose the right after school activity for your child, you need to understand how ADHD affects them. Does your child enjoy sports? Do they find it easy to get along with teammates? Or are they put-off by competition? Does your child vocalize their feelings, or is communication a problem?
Physical exercise is always beneficial for a child suffering from ADHD. Exercise uses up extra energy and helps to stimulate the brain. Having a child with ADHD involved with team activities can teach them social skills and discipline. But, if your child shies away from team sports, you may want to look at activities like, cycling, bowling, swimming or gymnastics. Martial Arts is a great activity for ADHD children as it not only teach techniques of self-defense but also self-control and patience.

If your child shows inclination towards the fine arts, instead of sports, you should look at some other options. Acting classes are a wonderful form of creative exercise. It also provides the child with ample opportunity to develop their social skills. Music, art or dance can help the child to keep themselves busy and entertained.

What if you child is not interested in sports, or the fine arts? Scouts or another community oriented club are great for any child with ADHD. These clubs may do any of the following, cleaning a park, putting on a show, helping out in an old age home, all of which are various activities that may pique your child’s interest.

Whatever form of activity you choose, make sure that you monitor your child’s progress periodically. If you feel that there is no progress, you may need to change the activity. Anything that increases your child’s self-esteem is good. You may enlist the help of the coach or teacher to assess your child’s development.

There are certain activities that are detrimental to a child suffering from ADHD. Computer and video games are a definite NO. Since these games need no interaction, children will feel all the more isolated. These children also find it difficult to distinguish between the good and the bad messages. They may therefore show an inclination to stick to messages that are not needed. Games that need the child to sit and wait for his turn patiently tax his patience and will not be a success.

Although you would want these children to be as near to normal as possible, understanding their needs and limits will help you select the right after school activity – one that is fulfilling, tiring as well as challenging.

The idea behind home schooling involves to handle a curriculum at home. When parents take a decision to home school their children, they bear the onus to help the child to cope with the syllabus recommended by officials for that particular grade or level. There are a number of methodologies adopted for home schooling. With each method, the variety of materials also differs.

In the case of educational philosophy, the focus is on a particular linear education like the Charlotte Mason pattern. While in the case of classical education, the focus is on the cream side of literature in any subject, its understanding and application. Then, there is the good old Montessori method that involves the learn-by-grade system. This is similar to the pattern observed in the traditional schools. These are just a few to mention, but with the adoption of anyone method comes along special requirements.

The best method is, without a doubt, the mixed eclectic. The home schooling parent can access a number of resources designed to address the different methodologies. There are specially designed curricula, books, public and private libraries, catalogs, retails, bookstores etc. The home schooling community is also able to receive dedicated help from television, video or radio. The connectivity of the Internet has made it possible for home schooling parents to interact within live forums and a rostrum that is world wide. There are correspondences, which are accessible and designed specifically for home schoolers.

The methodologies and the applications change due to the laws varying within government statutes of one region to another. All the methodologies of home schooling can be successfully imparted and learnt with the help of study strategies like the ‘unit’ method. The unit study method addresses art, social sciences, math and science and theology. The idea is establishing connectivity among the topics. The unit study methodology enables parents with more than one child to teach all the children effectively and simultaneously.

In the case of the all-in-one methodology, the subjects are taught in sets or comprehensive packages. Each package is designed to cover many subjects. The all-in-one methodology includes the supply of special books and material. This methodology is the best for the families, who live in remote areas and have no access to libraries or public schools. This method is widely adopted because the child is able to enjoy a smooth transition to a regular school or college later. The smooth transition comes from the similarity of subjects and the school like atmosphere generated at home.

The all-in-one methodology for home schooling your child is not cheap, but the system allows the application of easy to use material and minimal preparation. The all-in-one methodology comes with step-by-step instructions and regular testing, just like the traditional schools. Parents who are home schooling their children can also consider the approach that enables the student to progress at his or her speed.

The online home schooling option is also there. Regular, traditional institutes have now made homeschooling easier. They offer online assistance in the way of tests, games and practical-hands on exercises. There are a number of communities that also source information directly from places associated with the activity or subject like museums, athletic clubs and science preserves. Another popular methodology of home schooling a child is by taking help from the support group in the neighborhood.

There is much that has to go into education and some of it is the responsibility of the parents. This is where you have to start concentrating your efforts at this point. Many are not in the know on this kind of thing and you have to be sure that you are working it all out. We are seeing that we have a better sense of life when we are working to bring about a change in the way that our kids are being educated.

Because of the low pay and so on there is little that is going to happen with the idea of the education right now except for those teachers that are caring about their students. You may not always get that kind of thing and you have to be sure that you are working it all out in the right way to bring in the efforts that you need.

For this you have to be sure that you are working it all out and then managing the right position. School problems can come about at any time and you have to be sure that you know how to recognize them. As a whole this is something that is very easy to do when you know what you are doing.

The more that you are able to work with this idea the more that you are going to be able to fully understand how to work it out. Most often the school problems are going to be easy to solve and this is something that you have to deal with over time.

You may never be able to understand this concept but the situation is that you are going to have the chance to make a difference in the life of the students that you are dealing with. You never want to take this for granted because it could be vital to their survival later on in life.

Anger
Anger is one of the first signs that you will see when there is school problems. The kids will often start to lash out and in doing so they are going to be dealing with the issue from the very beginning. This is where you have to start working the process out and then making a change for the better. More often than not you will find that this anger is not associated with any specific event.

It is actually just going to be a generalized anger towards the entire process of education. So you have to start by getting to the bottom of the problems that may be coming around. You will notice that you are getting somewhere when the child is starting to open up to you about certain things.

Depression

When you have a child that is depressed then you will notice that you are getting involved with the school problems. This is where you are going to have to make the change and then move on. This is the best idea for the entire process because of the fact that you have to work things out properly.

You should never confront them until you are sure that you know what is going on. Try talking with the school about this process and it will show you what you need to be doing.

The trepidation of waiting for the annual exam results does not just apply to school children. At the moment parents are discovering if they have been successful in their application for their child’s place in a preferred school. Naturally we regard the performance of a school is entirely due to the skill of the teaching team, but one of the greatest influences in the teaching environment is the effect parents have in the performance.

Changes in the social environment and the assumed responsibilities of families have evolved over the years. Many schools cite increasing pressure and workload from dealing with issues that have been abandoned by the family. Discipline seems to be the greatest concern, creating problem with the control of the classroom and a challenge to authority. Hardly conducive to a focus on learning and inevitably the prerequisite to a dysfunctional adult life for the child involved.

The schools best able to cope have retained a level of control and a teaching team that achieved good results for the children. No surprise that these schools are much sought after and strive to maintain their position in the league tables. But they suffer from their own success as a proportion of parents have been discovered to lie and cheat to meet the entrance criteria. Unbounded by social position this regrettable activity hardly sets the ideal role model for their children and wastes valuable resource in its detection.

As 240,000 children fail to get into the school of their choice each year we can see the temptation to manipulate the application details and maybe accept that some parents would feel they had failed if they did not. It’s a double edged sword. But now more grist to the mill; figures announced in May 08 reveal 24,000 are classed as failing teachers that should not be in the job, up from the 17,000 assessed as failing last year. At 5 and really there are 28,800 failing teachers. The outcome is staggering as these failing teachers are involved in teaching children who are subsequently penalised. The average class size is 30 thus 720,000 children suffer as a consequent but this assumes the poor teachers only handle a single class. In reality they handle several classes at secondary level. Let’s assume five classes and the number of children disadvantaged reaches a staggering 3,600,000. Doesn’t bear thinking about, but what are schools doing about it ? The procedure to remove a poor teacher is so arduous that many schools have taken the alternative route to persuade these teachers to move on to another school merely recycling the problem. So can we really criticize parents wanting to get their children into the better schools.

The ideal outcome would be the appearance of a greater number of good schools and the allocation of greater involvement of parents in the schooling process through their child’s attendance at school. This would swell the teaching numbers with an auxiliary team drawn from the 7.4 million households with school aged children. Suddenly the teaching capacity of the UK is swelled by a huge reserve that can only benefit our children. Modern teaching resources used in class to support lessons are predominately educational games. These are ideal to replicate the lesson content at home as practice. All we need now is the coordination of this massive resource, at least it will compensate for a child failing to gain entry to a preferred school or being taught by a failing teacher

Pre-school years are a fun time in your child’s life. At this age they begin to develop and learn the skills needed for their future. It’s a phase that passes quite quickly yet it is at this time that they exhibit a lot of potential. Nowadays early childhood education programs are available for children at this age. Parents are now willing to give their children a head start in life. By going through an early childhood education program a child can have a decent grasp of the situation when they enter their kindergarten years.

It would be wise to consider an early childhood program for your pre-school children. It can be an important part of your child’s intellectual growth. The earlier a child is taught the brighter the future for that child will be. It prepares the child for the learning process and the curriculum that are offered in public schools. Many children experience problems as they adjust to the public school environment.

The adjustment difficulty may be due to the sudden change of environment. Children who have been cooped-up with their parents at home can be shocked to an environment dominated by the teacher and the presence of other children. An early childhood education program may be able to help your children cope with the sudden change in the environment and may help them have a greater learning success rate. Another way that you may consider to prepare your children for education and learning is through the Internet.

The World-Wide-Web is packed with children’s games that can enhance their learning capacity in a fun filled environment. In the process of having fun, they begin to develop and learn useful skills they need for their education. Online games can stimulate children from four up to seven years old. This inventive technology can help your child develop learning and understanding skills.

If you are planning early childhood program for your child, then you should consider trying the Internet for games that can help your child. Browse through a number of sites to discover that ideal early childhood program for your pre-school darling. Give them an early head start for their future.

When you are looking for a tutor for your child is it better for your child to get a private one on one tutor or would they do better in a group environment. This really depends on two things; the first is that you have to assess your childs’ personality. Will they do better one on one or with other students. Will tutoring with other students be a distraction for them or will they get the help they need. The second thing to take into consideration is how much help does your child need.

Some students like group tutoring because it is like being in the classroom. They don’t feel so down on themselves because they need extra help because others are getting the same help that they are. Often, that is why parents choose group tutoring because sometimes a child will lose self-esteem because they are falling behind from their class or their friends. By placing them in a group setting lets them see that they are not alone and other kids need help as well.

The problem with some group tutoring sessions is that they are often grouped with the subject the students are having trouble with. For example, if you have 30 students and 15 of them are having trouble in math. A group tutoring session is set up after school where these 15 students are having trouble with the math being taught.

The problem lies in the fact that maybe not all 15 students will be having the same trouble in the subject. So effective tutoring may not be what your child is getting. So basically group tutoring is great if the group of kids that need the help all need help in the same things not just the same subject. Private tutoring will cost more but in the name of your child’s education, price should not be an issue. Getting the perfect tutor is what is important and getting your child the help they need. Private tutors can spend one on one time with your child. They will get a better understanding as to the areas in where your child needs help. Instead of teaching a group of students like a classroom setting, one on one time may be exactly what your child needs.

The students may find group tutoring a distraction because of the other kids. Private tutoring is better as far as a place where there are no distractions and there is only the tutor and the student. Your child may need more help then they would get in a group session, the private tutor can spend more time with your child individually and that may be just what your child needs, specialized help.

As we are currently in the age of technology, and so many new things are cropping up in our midst when it comes to learning, it would come as no surprise that there are also other ways of dealing with a traditional approach to education. Some people want to apply a more hands-on take on educating their children with the thought of changing their strategies from that of the usual classroom settings.

Most of these concerned parents are aware that there is no single definite route to instilling ideas and basic knowledge to their kids but that alternative methods are available for them. Thus more people are interested in the process of homeschooling. This is a method of teaching that allows children to stay at home while being regularly taught with subjects that are introduced in standard schools as well, with the difference of not having to interact with other children their age on a daily basis.

Two of the most influential experts in Early Childhood Education, Ray and Dorothy Moore, conducted studies and research in the 1960s and 1970s regarding the developmental aspects of children. Education placed a high regard in these studies that they were looking for alternative ways on how to improve children’s reception to learning. They concluded in one of their studies that children do not benefit much from being sent to a structured school environment at an early age, before the age of 8-12. They explained how this setup can incur physical, emotional and social strains since children are not yet equipped to constantly adjust at this point in their lives.

Better Off At Home
The Moores did not want to introduce homeschooling as something that is an academic equivalent to standard schooling but rather for it to be seen as a natural approach to knowledge-producing experiences in the daily home life. They wanted to encourage parents to invest their time in a regular interaction with their children, and be involved with them in their process of knowing basic subjects. The time they spent at home with their young ones in their formative years would greatly enhance their learning curves and would instill in them an innate confidence of support and emotional bond.

As far as teaching at home is concerned, they think that this would yield better results when it comes to emotionally and socially adjusted children. They wanted to point out that not all children who were sent off to the best schools with supposedly excellent teachers turn out to be the most highly adjusted and knowledgeable students. There are also other factors such as emotional rapport and familial support that can entirely make or break each child’s motivation to learn.

Compared to schools, the home is one of the most secure environments for the child to be in on a daily basis. Thus it is a venue where the children can associate good and sound memories from. And add the learning dynamics to the equation, one could never find a much better scenario for producing a mentally and emotionally stable student.

The education programs offered through private schools throughout the United States are generally centered around Christian teachings and an academic program that is accredited and focused on preparing children for centers of higher learning. When educating children through private school programs, a tuition-based education is in force that allows parents to plan education costs on a 12-month payment plan.

The excellence of education received by students enrolled in private schools is considerably better than that gained from the public school system. The ratio of teachers to students is considerably better and there is more opportunity for one on one teaching practices that are not found in the public school classrooms. Children are able to strive for excellent scores each day because the learning environment is a safe environment that allows children to concentrate more on their studies.

With the values of Christian living enforced in day to day instruction, children get a well-rounded educational experience that allows them to grow into well-rounded adults. The private school programs are operated in a more relaxed atmosphere where children feel free to explore all of the possibilities of higher learning and attempt goals that normally they would not be tasked to try for many years.

Children develop expectations of winning by attending private schools because a nurturing environment surrounds them all day. Private schooling allows children to fail and learn from mistakes and the solid education levels they attain make them better prepared for when they go to college to earn a college degree. While attending traditional classes, private school students have the opportunity to excel in sports and take advanced courses in mathematics, science, and computer science.

Students that are enrolled in private school education programs also have the opportunity to pursue scholarships in music, sports, and traditional classes too. Most private schools will offer extra-curricular activities such drama classes, and concert band programs. Students can learn about all of the arts in a controlled setting that allows them to be expressive and eager to participate and learn from the task. Private school programs offer outstanding physical education programs and students can become active participants on the school’s baseball, football and track and field teams.

The class sizes for each grade level at private schools are considerably smaller than in the classrooms at a public school. The classroom walls at private schools are filled with themes that are currently being studied and at certain times of the year, it is not uncommon to see the school hallways transformed to mimic the ocean with all sea creatures that swim beneath the ocean depths. Students at private schools can get actively involved in their studies and earn credits for graduation along the way.

The private school education platform includes computer science courses. Students in private school can learn to navigate through the internet to learn about current events and use the internet access to conduct research on a variety of subjects that are being taught.

Children is considered an important and lovely member in your family . Therefore , you pay attention to the education of your kids so much and carefully . How Do Your Children Learn ?

Nurture and Teach

The single most important thing caregivers can do for a child is provide a nurturing environment. By doing this, we influence children’s brain development and their ability to learn. Introducing nurtured children to learning opportunities every day will help them become happy, well-adjusted adults. In all stages of child development, each experience builds on the one before it. The most basic foundations can serve as the basis for the comprehension of more complex ideas in future years.

Learning Begins at Birth

We are born with billions of brain cells – in fact, all we will ever have. What is missing is a large amount of connections – synapses – between those brain cells. Synapses start developing based on a child’s experiences.

Children’s brains develop faster from birth to age three than any other time; and more learning takes place during this time than any other. The more learning opportunities parents provide for their children from birth until school age, the more synapses are made. The connections will serve as a pool of knowledge for a child to access in later years. Because children’s earliest experiences affect how they will think, learn and behave, helping children learn from birth to school age is a crucial activity. Parents and other caregivers can create a strong foundation for learning by providing a nurturing and rich learning environment from the very beginning.

Children Seek Learning Experiences

Not only do children need to be physically active, it is their nature to look for opportunities to learn. They participate in learning by using their senses and asking countless questions in order to more fully understand the task at hand.

Creating a Learning Environment

Children enjoy learning when they can master an activity. Begin with a simple task and expand or complicate it after your child has enjoyed some successes. Create a safe and secure learning environment. This will help children do their best learning rather than distract them. Key to creating this environment is treating your child with respect and caring.

Where Do Children Learn?

Children learn everywhere from school to the doctor’s office to the grocery store. As do adults, children learn from interacting with others and watching their parents’ behavior. Kids are highly influenced by the people in their lives, especially adults who they are close to.

Not All Children Learn in the Same Way

In the book Frame of Mind, Howard Gardner described his theory of multiple intelligences. We all have a certain way we prefer to learn. The seven multiple intelligences Gardner points to are interpersonal, intrapersonal, bodily-kinesthetic, spatial, musical, logical-mathematical and linguistic. We have the most success teaching our children when we can recognize their style of learning (as well as our style of teaching) and incorporate activities accordingly.

Playing and Learning

The main way children collect and process information is through play. Play is the repetition that reinforces old skills and encourages new ones. Because play is enjoyable, children’s minds are open. Children are capable of much learning through play because they are very receptive and relaxed. Take advantage of this benefit and select activities that are fun and educational. Your children will learn, and you will both enjoy the experience.

Children are the future of every country. They need attention and care, no matter whichever family they are coming from. Special attention is needed to be paid to kids coming from economically backward families. But the cause of the children takes a backseat often before the governments (especially in the third world countries where the governments have to deal with thousand of humanitarian problems). However, if the state administration neglects it that does not mean that we also neglect it. Individuals need to come forward with the willingness to work for the cause of helping the children.

How one should go about helping the children, especially those coming from economically backward families? The first thing that should be done is to help them get and complete quality education. Once this procedure is started every other thing becomes easier. As our social and professional institutions value the education most when one starts earning one’s living. If you have got the proper educations then one have all the opportunities in the world to have a decent living. So, it will be the best way of helping the children to establish such schools where the children of the poor people will be provided free education.

For realizing this plan for real, charitable organizations need to be established where those people who have got everything in life needs to make their contribution to work for helping the children. And with these contributions the organizations need to fund or establish schools to make the education and the entire infrastructure to support the education of the poor children absolutely free. Along with teaching the modern subjects, the children need to be given all the ethical and moral education so that they do not grow up into culturally devoid adults.

This simple way of helping the children by making available to them proper education, will help in building a healthy society and eradicating poverty. Make your contribution to Guru Nanak Garib Niwaj Education Society, which is working for achieving the same goal.

You’ve heard all the nasty rumors about child care, but you have to get back to work and you have no choice. But did you know there are benefits to sending your child to daycare If you consider some of these benefits, it will help you come to terms with your own decision whether you have a choice or not.

If you can understand some of the ways children benefit from childcare, you will feel you are helping your child grow into a well rounded, happy child instead of punishing the both of you by sticking him in daycare.

Babies need interaction with other children. It’s never too early to start engaging him in activities with other children, whether they are other babies, toddlers or older children. Learning to interact with other children prepares a child for his first encounter with school. A daycare environment is a perfect place to get a child used to other children as he will have to do when he enters preschool or kindergarten. Daycare is a gentler environment, there are less rules and more flexibility than strict teachers may impose.

You can still interact with your child while he is at child care. Offering to volunteer, especially when your child is in attendance, will make him feel more comfortable when you are not there. Making sure you attend when it is your child’s birthday is an important goal to strive for. Most child care providers and day care centers make a party on a child’s birthday, as do kindergartens and grammar schools.

You can also surprise your child and stop by during your lunch break and offer to eat lunch with him, read a book or just play with him. If your child care provider has a website or a newsletter that is sent home, you can plan ahead to attend one of the events they have scheduled, such as a field trip to a museum or a park. Just spending some time with your child is important and meaningful while he is spending his day in child care.

Those children who are quiet and well behaved are set to the side while the teachers struggle to deal with the children who are not so self sufficient; is it any wonder, then, that this often results in these children learning to emulate the less than savory behavior of their peers, whom they see receiving the individual attention they crave?

The key to a positive day care experience is to carefully screen any day care before a child is enrolled. The school should have a low staff to child ratio, with one adult to every two or three children at the infant level, gradually rising as the child increases in age but still sufficient for individual attention.

Children benefit from childcare but it is really the parents that make the most difference in your child’s life. When he gets home from daycare after spending a long day away from you, he will want to tell you about his day. Ask him questions about his friends, his teachers, his subjects. He is capable of interacting with you no matter what his age is, and getting him to vividly describe his day is exciting to a child especially if the parent shows interest. Of course you are interested, aren’t you This child, a smaller version of yourself, is taking on the world a day at a time, and the choices and desires he has will be a direct reflection of you. Make the most of that opportunity while you can, children are only children once.

Someone who believes that an education system that was instituted over two thousand years ago can be thrown out within a single generation has ignored the fact that time is the best testing ground when it comes to understanding human behavior.

50 years: That’s all it took for educators and lawmakers to throw away an educational system that took more than 2,000 years to age to perfection.

Ancient Greece and Rome first developed classical education, and by the 16th century it was the norm throughout the Western world.

This educational system produced some of the finest thinkers and leaders between the 10th and 19th centuries. Most of the Founding Fathers of America were educated with this system.

Can you think of any other time period where there was more progress in science, philosophy, art, and literature?

For real meaning in learning to occur, more than just fact needs to be taught. True education occurs when a learner is able to develop thinking and articulate their ideas through clear argument and persuasion.

Classical education provides the best tools for developing a child’s mind. Truly no wonder that so many classical education schools are turning up all over the country.

Order and discipline, the arts, and rigorous academic standards are all hallmarks of classic education, which are fading away in other forms of education.

Education’s most important task is teaching students how to learn. Really, truly learn. But performance-based learning and “progressive” teaching methods make it hard for students to learn the mental tools they need, which they would have received through traditional methods.

Concrete facts, language, and logic are the foundation skills for independent learning in classical education. It’s obvious what classical education can do for students when they’re able to apply their knowledge through clear expression, logic, and reason.

Classical education goes beyond the facts that need to be learned. This teaching method helps children develop the skills that essential in higher education and in daily life.
